ALI / MINDFULNESS BELL
ALI is a magic formula for our everyday work life. If we feel exhausted, twisted, tired, tense, or if our thoughts start racing, we take a mini-break.
A = Breathing
L = Smile
I = Pause
Three breaths are usually enough to recenter ourselves and create inner spaciousness. A brings body and mind together, L bestows loving attention upon ourselves and pacifies the inner critic and judge, I gives us a moment beyond functioning and achieving, and nourishes the feeling of inner freedom within us.
We can regularly remind ourselves of ALI, but in everyday life we often forget and lose ourselves in our activities.
Therefore, we need external reminders to pause and reflect.
Our telephone can be an excellent mindfulness bell. Instead of immediately reaching for the phone, we practice:
A = Breathing
L = Smile
I = Pause
Red lights, waiting times, church bells, and computer crashes – all can remind us to take a deep breath. We know ourselves best and can create a safety net by, for example, placing reminders on our cell phone, laptop, espresso machine, remote control, or credit card. This way, we can head in a different direction with a smile.
What would change if we regularly practiced ALI in our workplace and in our activities?

Support the
Network for Mindful Business e.V.
We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to pursue its long-term goals. Donations are, for us, "warm money," often called "Dana" in Buddhist terminology. Dana represents giving freely and without ulterior motives to support beneficial causes. Dana is loving-kindness and goodwill, enabling the Buddha's wisdom teachings to flow powerfully onward.
