International Impulses

Contact

A man with dark hair and a three-day beard smiles warmly at the camera. He is wearing a grey blazer over a light shirt and is standing in front of a very light, neutral background with plenty of space on the right.

Alexander Hunzicker

A person with long curly hair smiles warmly at the camera. The person is standing next to the pond at the EIAB, in front of tall, lush plants that make the background appear soft and green.

Jay Kaufmann

A man with a full beard and dark blond hair stands outdoors, gazing calmly into the distance. He is wearing a blue polo shirt, and blurred trees can be seen in the background.

Kai Romhardt

A man with curly hair and a short beard smiles broadly at the camera. The black and white portrait shows him against a light background, which clearly highlights his face.

Moritz Richartz

A man wearing a hat and outdoor jacket smiles at the camera. He stands in a sunny, hilly landscape with lots of greenery, autumn colors, and a blue sky.

    Online impulses from the Network for Mindful Business are a 75-minute format to meditate together, hear a short talk, self-reflect and exchange in break-out groups about a particular topic of interest.

    They generally take place from 17:15 - 18:30 CET (Central European Time a.k.a. Paris, Berlin, Rome), which makes for a nice close to the workday in Europe, a morning practice in the Americas and an evening close in Asia.

    They grew out of local in-person events focused around various topics or koans. They coalesced into an online format in 2020 as we moved towards more international activities.

    The impulses are hosted alternatively by different core members of the Network for Mindful Business.

    Language: The impulse events take place in English.

Topics we have already touched

* Gratitude@Work": How does it transform our relationships in the office and beyond?

* Emotions@Work: How do we take good care of our mental states and formations - both individually and collectively?

* Money@Work: Towards a better understanding of a hidden force and energy

* Free@Work: What kind of freedom are we really looking for?

* Silence@Work: Understanding and connecting ourselves without words

* Beginning Anew@Work: Reflect upon how we may wish to increase joy and reduce suffering in our workplaces.

* Living (the) Dharma@work

* Relationship @ Work: How is it possible to be the master of your own life, when the influence of relationship is so big? How can we transform relationships that have become bitter or cold? And what kind of distinction do we draw between "professional", "private", and even "spiritual" relationships?

* Love@Work: What happens if we allow ourselves the gift of bold, radical imagination with respect to our work lives? If we allow ourselves to imagine a loving workplace, what does that look and feel like? Taking it a step further: How might we envision an economy with love as its aim? And what first small specific steps can I take today towards a love-based engagement with work, money and business?

* Peace@Work: Thich Nhat Hanh consistently and powerfully walked and worked for peace. What can we leverage from the Buddhist dharma to strengthen our inner peace — and bring peace into our workplaces, economy and world?

* Healing@Work:  In the teachings of the Dharma, the Buddha has often been described as a doctor who offers healing and strong medicine to cure our mind. Is healing also possible at work? Or is it the place where we get hurt?

* Rhythm@Work: Rhythms are everywhere and have a big influence on the quality of our life. There are natural rhythms (e.g. day/night) and cultural rhythms (e.g. work day/weekend). What are our rhythms of business? What are our daily, weekly, monthly, annual rhythms when it comes to work?

* Religion@Work: or many of us on the spiritual path, our faith is central to our life. Work, as well, is a big component of our lives. We'd like to explore together how to reconcile these two. To what extent do I share about my spiritual life at work? Do we feel the need to leave the sacred at home? What have I experienced when I open up about faith-related practices and experiences? (To what extent) do I “secularize” my mindfulness and dharma practice at work?

* Simplicity@Work

* Happiness@Work

* Well-being@Work: Well-being and suffering are interconnected. The more suffering grows, the less well-being manifests. The more well-being grows, the less suffering there is. In the workplace, we often focus on deadlines and rush to achieve goals.  Do I take care of my well-being at work? And that of my colleagues?How could I improve well-being in my work environment? What is the relationship between my well-being, that of my colleagues, my organization's well-being, and that of the environment?

* The Body@Work

* Mindful Sales@Work

* Generosity@Work: The dharma concept of “dana” — giving without expectations and receiving without guilt — is the first practice toward perfecting our minds and hearts. What does generosity mean in business? Where might we find freedom in monetary transactions? How can I distinguish between healthy generosity and unhealthy giving too much of myself to work?

* Truth@Work: How do we find truth in the floods of information in modern work environments?

What is “truth” in a larger sense, in terms of the dharma? How might a “higher truth” be a guiding light for finding everyday truth our business engagements and economics transactions?

* The Power of Small Actions@Work

* True breaks@work

* Friends@Work

Support the
Network for Mindful Business e.V.

We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to pursue its long-term goals. Donations are, for us, "warm money," often called "Dana" in Buddhist terminology. Dana represents giving freely and without ulterior motives to support beneficial causes. Dana is loving-kindness and goodwill, enabling the Buddha's wisdom teachings to flow powerfully onward.
