International Day of Mindful Work in a number of locations around the world

Our working lives are often characterized by stress, excessive demands and the feeling of a lack of meaning. One in three employees in Germany feels burned out and, with the increased use of home offices, a feeling of isolation can arise. Mindful coworking serves to integrate mindfulness and connection into our working lifes and thus provides an answer to these challenges of our time.

Mindful coworking is mindful, real work on our own project in a group. As a rule, work is done on the computer, i.e. writing emails, developing concepts or editing Excel sheets. Our work-mindfulness is supported by joint meditation, mindfulness bells and the friends of mindful work such as impulse distance and transition.

In order to further strengthen the connection in this mindful work, the Network for Mindful Business is organizing an international Mindful Coworking Day on April 18, 2024, on which groups of 2-10 people will cowork mindfully in person. These groups connect via Zoom at the beginning and end of the day. Groups with a large time difference (e.g. New York) start at their local time.

The emergence of Mindful Coworking

When we feel comfortable on the meditation cushion and our practice has achieved a certain stability, we are invited to extend our mindfulness practice into our everyday lives in order to let mindfulness work for ourselves and others. Many of us do this in the form of mindful communication, mindful speaking and deep listening, mindful decision-making, small mindful breaks in our hectic everyday life and much more.

A large part of our everyday life, which many people find to be (partially) painful, is our work. Mindfulness has the potential to transform this area of life, but maintaining mindfulness in everyday work is often more difficult. Work is a highly complex process in which we balance both ourselves (our impulses, ideas, needs, thoughts, feelings, values, demands for meaning, actions, and much more) as well as all these elements of other people, be it our customers, bosses and colleagues, in a targeted manner. No wonder that this process often overwhelms us and our contact with ourselves and our mindfulness suffer as a result.

Mindful Coworking was born out of awareness of how difficult it is to work mindfully as an individual. The idea of Mindful Coworking is therefore to look for companions and practice mindful work together in a protected environment. Mindfulness is transferred to real work contexts.
